November 28, 2015 - Saturday Cancun Mexico Walked around Cancun. Hotel was in the city, not the tourist hotel loop. November 29, 2015 - Sunday Cancun Mexico In the evening joined my tour group for the next 22 days. It was another G Adventures tour. November 30, 2015 - Monday Merida Mexico We boarded the bus to see Chichen Itza. Once there a local guide met us and took us on a tour. He talked way to much so I left and saw the rest of the site on my own. I rejoined the group for lunch, and then we continued on to the city of Merida. December 1, 2015 - Tuesday Merida Mexico Free day, but myself and several others on the tour wanted to see the cenotes. Our tour leader arranged it, and off we went. We took a vehicle to a staging area, and then got in a little train car thing that was pulled by a donkey. We did three things. The first was a cave that you access by a ladder in a hole in the ground surrounded by trees. After that we went to two different cenotes to swim. It was a pretty cool experience. December 2, 2015 - Wednesday Palenque Mexico Today was a very, very long bus ride to Palenque. December 3, 2015 - Thursday Palenque Mexico In the morning we toured the ruins of Palenque. Again, the local guide talked too much so I wandered off on my own. In the afternoon we went to the Robert Barrio waterfalls, where we swam and slide down a series of pools. That was fun. December 4, 2015 - Friday San Cristobal de las Casas Mexico Took the bus to San Cristobal de las Casas and walked around the town. December 5, 2015 - Saturday San Cristobal de las Casas Mexico A free day. Myself a couple of others did a trip to a national park (Canyon del Sumidero) where we got on a boat and took it up the canyon. It was okay, but not the best thing in the world. December 6, 2015 - Sunday Panajechel Guatemala Bus to the Mexico/Guatemala border. Trash everywhere. Our tour leader collected everyone's passports and a couple of dollars and went off to get them stamped. I never did see any border officials. Suspect one could just walk across without an issue. A short while later we were on the way to Panajechel, a town by Lake Atitlan. Before getting there we stopped at a viewpoint to watch the sunset over the volcanoes. December 7, 2015 - Monday Panajechel Guatemala We took a boat trip on the lake, stopping first at a coffee house and then at a village where we saw a weaving demonstration. Weather was great in the morning.  On the way back to town the wind picked up and made the lake very choppy. December 8, 2015 - Tuesday Antigua Guatemala Took the bus to Antigua and walked around. We stopped at a local place for lunch. December 9, 2015 - Wednesday Antigua Guatemala Turns out the local place was bad. Half the group, including myself got food poisoning. Not as bad as Cambodia, but still not a fun time. December 10, 2015 - Thursday Antigua Guatemala Feeling better today. Walked around town a bit. The tour I am on is actually two tours joined together. So some people left and new people joined us this evening. December 11, 2015 - Friday Rio Dulce Guatemala Long bus ride to Rio Dulce, and then a boat ride to a jungle lodge where we stayed. The beds had mosquito netting around them. December 12, 2015 - Saturday Rio Dulce Guatemala We did an early morning kayak trip to see the howler monkeys. The rest of the day was free. Myself and several people went to a waterfall and natural pool, which involved a boat ride and then being in a trailer that was pulled by a tractor. I could have used an extra day here to do different activities or just relax at the very nice hotel pool. December 13, 2015 - Sunday Flores Guatemala Bus to Flores. December 14, 2015 - Monday Flores Guatemala Went to see more Mayan ruins, this time at Tikal. This was my favorite of the three on this tour. Our local guide this time was very good. In the afternoon we hired a boat and went for a ride and swim in the nearby lake. December 15, 2015 - Tuesday San Ignacio Belize Went to the border with Belize. The lady working there was more interested in her phone than the people crossing the border. We took a bus to San Ignacio. After lunch myself and a girl from the trip went to a hotel where we paid a few bucks to use their pool. Afterwards we went to an iguana sanctuary where I got to hold them and have them crawl over me. December 16, 2015 - Wednesday San Ignacio Belize A free day. Myself and three girls went to Crystal Caves to go spelunking. This was not regular cave tour with boardwalks and set lighting like the other cave tours I have done. We had hard hats with lights and were crawling on our hands and knees for parts of it. We did have a guide. Near the end to do a side cave we had to take off our shoes and go in barefoot to protect the crystals in the cave floor. By the end of it we were all covered in dirt. Fun day though. December 17, 2015 - Thursday Caye Caulker Belize Took the bus and then a boat to Caye Caulker, our home for the next three nights. We swam in the ocean and then went for dinner, followed by drinks and dancing. December 18, 2015 - Friday Caye Caulker Belize Did a snorkeling trip that stopped at three places. Saw turtles, stingrays, and lots of fish. December 19, 2015 - Saturday Caye Caulker Belize Weather turned bad, so mostly hung out with people from the tour. Didn’t do much. December 20, 2015 - Sunday Caye Caulker Belize Time to fly home for Christmas. Took a small prop plane to Belize City airport, and then a big plane home.
