I had some tours booked in Peru starting late October, so I roughly had a
month and a half to fill up. I spent about 10 days at home and then flew to
Colombia. I had thought Colombia would be sort of like Thailand, in which it
would be very easy to get around and would have a similar ‘feeling’. I was
wrong. In hindsight, I would have enjoyed Colombia much more on an organized
tour. Arrived in Bogota in late afternoon. Walked around a bit. |

Took the funicular up Monserrat (a mountain) and walked around. Not liking
Bogota, lots of garbage and not much to do.

| Fly to Medellin. Airport security confiscated my toenail clippers. Had those though numerous other airports with no issue, but here is was somehow a problem. Walked around town. | ||

| Fly to Cartagena. Walked around a bit. The hostel I’m staying at sucks. It’s dirty and they have speakers outside the rooms blasting music until late at night. Internet service sucks. | ||

Left hostel, got a hotel room. Hostel refused to refund me for unused days,
so left them a bad review, which they deserve. Explored old town, did the
fort outside of the city walls.

| Didn’t do much. Was starting to feel sick, and I had enough of this country, so booked a flight home. | ||

| Fly home. They x-ray’d my stomach at the Cartagena airport to see if I was smuggling drugs out of Colombia (I wasn’t). Once home I was sick and took about a week to recover. | ||
